As a drama therapist I am completely committed to your well-being and providing you with an opportunity to express how you really feel in a non-confrontational atmosphere. I believe you are the expert of yourself and your life, I am merely a guide
My goal as your therapist is to provide you with the tools to gain insight and develop patterns geared towards enabling you to have more gratitude, joy, and warmer relationships. I help you explore what roles you might want to play in the future and process how you might want to approach the next step(s) in your life. I want to give you the space to express yourself and for you to feel understood.

My work as a mental health counsellor started years ago when I first learned how to manage my own anxiety. The practice of mindfulness and the art of theatre when combined were helpful in assisting me in developing an awareness of how I was feeling moment to moment. Through practice, I learned that my anger, sadness, and anxiety, were related to life events and that I was in control in choosing how I responded.

I believe that people have it within themselves to change. When I was young, I weighed 330 lbs (150 kg) and with the help of my personal trainer and Yoga Teacher, both of whom guided me and supported me. After all the physical activity and weight loss, I looked the best I had ever looked in my entire life. However, I felt sad, confused, and lonely. I learned two things by losing all that weight and gaining all that fitness: I could change whatever I needed to change in my life but the hurt inside can remain.

I turned my attention afterwards to wards understanding the mind/body connection and how the brain functions. I learned acting and fell in love with the process of taking on new characters and expressing the full spectrum of emotions. I learned by direct experience and theory that when we embody or express emotions we can feel them deeply inside. For example, if I show disgust on my face, I am recalling an important time I may have felt disgust. I learned that I can recall memories from simply acting out characters.

My practice merges my life experience and my clinical training as a Drama Therapist and Yoga Teacher holding three certificates. My experience thus far has included work at the Emergency Room at the Montreal Children's Hospital, as a case worker in Youth Protection, and at the McGill Domestic Violence Clinic as a therapist for perpetrators of domestic violence. At these positions I learned how to deeply listen to someone's story, provide pointed feedback, and offer interventions that improved my client's well being by developing their insight, and expanding their awareness about their own challenges and relational needs.

Today I am happy to offer everything I have learned from a compassionate, non-judgmental, and human approach. I look forward to working with anyone seeking help.

Jonathan's sense of humour was a wonderful reprieve during the very many stressful days at the hospital, and his genuine desire to help people, and satisfaction after having done so, were heartwarming.
